Technology
What if learners have tech issues during virtual training?
When tech issues occur in virtual sessions, facilitators and producers should respond promptly to minimize disruption and support learners.
Tech hiccups are inevitable in virtual classrooms. What matters is how smoothly you recover. A dedicated virtual producer should handle most technical issues behind the scenes—helping learners reconnect, fixing audio/video problems, or adjusting settings without interrupting instruction.
Facilitators should be ready to pause if needed, reassure the group, and continue with flexibility. Having a clear plan in place—including how to contact tech support or rejoin via an alternate link—helps everyone stay calm and confident.
Best Practices:
- Have a Producer or Tech Support Assigned: Let them handle troubleshooting while the facilitator continues.
- Share a Quick Troubleshooting Guide in Advance: Prepare learners with basic fixes for audio, video, and access.
- Keep Calm and Communicate Clearly: Acknowledge the issue, adjust timing if needed, and resume when resolved.
- Provide a Backup Link or Platform Option: If a crash happens, reconnect learners through LMS or email.
